Press Release:

Brooks & District Chamber Launches Experience Brooks-Newell App to Incentivize Visitors to Stop, Visit, Purchase and Repeat

New mobile app created using the Xperience Alberta platform from Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) rewards tourists and residents for discovering the Brooks-Newell region.

August 23, 2021 – (Brooks, AB) – Today, the Brooks & District Chamber launched a new, free mobile app, "Experience Brooks-Newell," to reward people for exploring the region’s many hidden treasures. The app, built using the Xperience Alberta platform hosted by Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) and powered by 468 Communications, allows people to collect points as they explore and redeem those points for rewards at local businesses.

Available as a free download from the App Store and Google Play, the Experience Brooks-Newell app provides a curated guide to the best of Brooks-Newell, including homestyle cooking, local artisans, and more. Using the app, people can collect 10 points each time they physically visit one of the locations listed in the app. Once they collect enough points, app users can redeem those points for rewards.

“As the Canada-US border reopens and people start moving around after a long period staying put, we want to give them extra incentives to re-engage with the unique attractions and businesses around Brooks,” said Margaret Plumtree, Executive Director of Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce. “The Experience Brooks-Newell app is another example of the investment we’re making to keep our local businesses sustainable, relevant and prosperous.”

After downloading from one of the app stores, to begin reaping the benefits of the Experience Brooks-Newell app, users simply create an account by providing their first name and email address. With an account, users can collect points at each app location by hitting the “collect points” button for that location. Users can keep track of their points collected and places visited on their app’s account page. To redeem points for rewards, users visit the Rewards locations listed in the app.

“Tourism and related businesses are amongst the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Leann Hackman-Carty, CEO of Economic Developers Alberta (EDA), provider of the Xperience Alberta app platform. “It is essential that businesses and communities provide incentives for people to visit and support local commerce, and I know the Experience Brooks-Newell app will do just that.”

The Experience Brooks-Newell app is available now from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Provided exclusively in Alberta by EDA, the Xperience Alberta platform was developed by 468 Communications, with clients across Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce

receives federal shop local funds from the federal government.

Brooks, Alberta (June 25, 2021) – The Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce will receive $34,560 of federal shop local funding—funding that will expand the chamber’s ongoing efforts to encourage patronage of community businesses.

“We have been working for months with the Alberta Chamber on ways we can all assist our businesses in our communities. Thanks to our diligent work with the Alberta Chamber and the financial support through the Federal Government, we can now launch a provincial marketplace for our businesses. This is a game changer for our province and businesses. We now have a way to assist our businesses in competing with large online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay.” says Margaret Plumtree, Executive Director.

“We are currently working on our Business App which will promote our businesses, providing incentives for residents and travelers to stop, visit, purchase and repeat. Finally, our Love Rural Business Program will highlight our incredibly vast array of businesses that make the Brooks Region unique and worth visiting more than once. This is the kind of programs that can only be accomplished through hard work, commitment, and advocacy with partnerships. We are so proud to provide our businesses the recourses and tools to keep them sustainable, relevant and prosperous.” Margaret Plumtree, Executive Director of the Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce.

The funding will support the Alberta Chamber Market, The Chamber Experience Brooks Region Business App and Incentive Program and our Love Rural Business Program.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, community chambers have truly been a lifeline for businesses,” says Ken Kobly, Alberta Chambers of Commerce President and CEO. “As we transition to reopening and recovery, we still have a long road ahead to rebuild our economy. This federal funding will help chambers do what we do best: support local job creators.”

A second round of funding applications is currently being processed.
