My name is Holly Lake-Schnell. My family's heritage has been tied to the County of Newell for four generations, my grandparents being some of the first pioneers to the Duchess area.
I was born in Brooks, and have lived and worked in this community all my life with the exception of the years I spent in Calgary studying for my nursing certificate. I sent 17 years working at the Brooks Health Centre during which time I was actively involved in attending meetings, reading and adjusting policies and overall promoting a co-operative and harmonious work place. I was also involved in helping to develop the very first guidelines for WHIMS which has become so important today.
My husband and I raised five children all of whom received their education in Duchess and Brooks. During their school years I was actively involved in the Home and School and all of their fundraising efforts.
I served on the Duchess Ag. Society for several years helping to organize social events and volunteered at the Duchess Arena helping to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
I worked for the City of Brooks for seven years during which time I took many training classes on diversification and our ever changing population.
I am passionate about listening to the concerns and issues facing the constituents of District eight and bringing their concerns forward to council. I believe that every County member should have access to affordable Regional Water. I believe that we must work together to develop a brighter future for our youth as well as being strong advocates for our Senior and Developmentally Disabled population all the while keeping fiscal responsibility at the forefront. Having always worked in professions that required strong communication skills, I believe that I can lead and fairly represent our District as we look toward the future together.
